One of the earliest known origin stories for the Margarita comes from 1938 at Rancho la Gloria just outside of Tijuana, Mexico. As the legend goes, it involves a beautiful young bar patron, dancer Marjorie King, who was allergic to every spirit but Tequila. Her name in Spanish was “Margarita”, and thus a legendary drink was born. No matter what story you’ve heard, each one has a few things in common -- a birthplace in the arid, desert climate of the Southwestern United States and Mexico, the irreplaceable combination of lime and tequila, and a cocktail made with the simplest pure ingredients.
Both tequila and agave nectar come from the same plant, a hearty desert succulent whose long, spiny leaves are filled with a sweet, sugary sap known as aguamiel, meaning “honey water”. We make Agalima with Jalisco blue agave nectar to make you feel like you’ve been transported right there to the Rancho la Gloria in 1938. Experience authentic with Agalima.
